Cumbiasound is a living, evolving music experiment from Malmö bridging the vibrant connection between Africa and South America. The project was born in 2010 on a sun-soaked sidewalk in La Dorada, Colombia, when Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Fridell was inspired by the local rhythms playing in the streets, a moment that sparked a deep journey into tropical fusion.

Weaving traditional Colombian cumbia with elements of jazz, reggae, funk, Afrobeat, and space sounds, Cumbiasound has carved out a distinctive identity. Operating as an ever-changing collective, Cumbiasound are preparing a special, bespoke lineup tailored specifically for Congona Festival.
